Here is some additional information on the fire at NARA's Dayton Federal Records Center:

A roof-top fire broke out in NARA's Federal Records Center facility in Dayton, OH, a General Services Administration (GSA) building, late Thursday afternoon, July 11. It resulted in a three-foot hole in the roof. No records were burned, and only 19 boxes of records were permeated by water; the records in them are being air-dried at the center and should be available for use soon. NARA officials said a roofing contractor hired by GSA did not follow appropriate hot work rules when he left the site for the day. No one was injured, and the Dayton staff was at work Friday.

The Center is fully sprinklered and compartmentalized in accordance with NARA's regulations.
