the only real reference in Sibley's that I can find on this topic is at the
left-hand bottom of page 50 (in the first edition) and it says: "their
feathers are not water-repellent, so cormorants and Anhinga enter water only
to feed and bathe, then spend much time on exposed perches drying their
plumage with wings spread."
