I do not think that any inference of a western origin can be made for a
yellow/orange variant male House Finch.  This form is rare, but not unknown
in the eastern population.  When I lived in Tallahassee, and had the first
dependable feeder-visiting population of the species during the winter of
1988-89,  I observed example of these variants during that, and later, years.
