We encourage all faculty to hold part or all of their office hours in the Learning Center. We have had great success with many of our math, English, history, ESL, and science faculty. Many students feel more comfortable meeting in a large area and many come to do group work with the instructor. It has also helped when a tutor has been unable to come, to have a ready faculty member there to assist. At the beginning of each semester we send out a flyer listing and thanking all those who participated and encouraging others to join in. We have a sign up sheet at the bottom. Fortunately, all the Deans like this practice and encourage faculty participation. We're in the very initial stages of trying to get this institutionalized for the benefit of the students as well as the tutors. I would appreciate your opinions on this method as well as suggestions of how to go about institutionalization.
