We have a position open for our Tutor Program Director at West Point.  USMA
was selected as one of the 13 Institutions of Excellence in the First Year
of College by the National Policy Center on the First Year Experience.  The
Tutor Program at West Point plays an important role in the distinction and
in the support of the students in their first year.

The tutor program is robust and unique in that it is made up of voluntary
tutors.  These tutors participate in an annual tutor training conference
with over 300 attendees facilitated by our Tutor Program Director with
involvement of staff and faculty members who conduct the training.  The
program is CRLA certified, and is run mostly by the academic
officers/sergeants (all upperclass) cadets in each of the 32 companies
(thing of these as groups of floors within the residence halls on your
campus).  The Tutor Program Director must have strong organization skills
and the ability to conduct training for large and small groups.  If you are
interested in the position, please follow the instructions below.

If you are not part of the government service (GS) system, we can only hire
at the GS-9 step one salary level ($40K), if you are in the system, we will
be able to accept you at your current step level if you are a GS-9, if a
grade below GS9, then we will hire at the GS9 step 1 level.

Duties:

Performs instructional duties in the Reading and Study Skills Center.
Instructs cadets, staff, faculty, and other authorized personnel in reading
and study skills. Develops lesson plans and materials. Utilizes computers
for instructional purposes. Tests and evaluates student performance.
Instructs within the established framework for courses.

Administer and deliver the Center for Enhanced Performance Company Tutor
Program. This includes the advertising, coordination, implementation, and
delivery of materials, training, and support to the cadet company Academic
Officers and Sergeants and volunteer cadet tutors.

Qualification Requirements:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: (a) Degree that included or was supplemented by major
study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position;
OR (b) Combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a
major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the
position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that
provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through successful
completion of the 4-year course of study described in (a).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to meeting the basic entry
qualification requirements, applicants must have two years of progressively
higher level graduate education leading to a Master's degree, OR Master's or
equivalent degree, OR one year of specialized experience equivalent to at
least the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience: Experience that
demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide instruction in
reading and study skills, develop lesson plans and instructional materials,
evaluate student performance.

Selective Placement Factors/Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

Candidates will be rated on their possession of the following knowledge,
skills, and abilities. Candidates must address each of the KSAs specifically
on plain bond paper and submit it along with the other application
materials. Information may include experience, education, training and
awards as it relates to each KSA. Since you will be rated based on your
possession of the KSAs listed in this announcement and a ranking
determination made which affects your chances for employment, it would
