It's one of the largest databases ever, is public, and may be accessed in milliseconds for free. Such information transparency is unprecedented. Two years ago I developed a tool for mapping nascent markets using Google's "related" tag. The tool generated social nets of companies. However, since Google mines everything from corporate ads to personal home pages, the same tool may be used to discover personal relations. For additional info on the tool see the links below. Keep in mind that this is a research prototype; namely, the graphs have not been reduced to increase readability. http://pavg.stanford.edu/people/bryan/VS_screen_shots.pdf A short note on how the vendor spaces tool can be used to produce social nets of people. http://pavg.stanford.edu/people/bryan/VS_Minsky.pdf ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rich Persaud" <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Sent: Sunday, February 16, 2003 2:20 AM Subject: Google, Blogger, Spidexes > ***** To join INSNA, visit http://www.sfu.ca/~insna/ ***** > > Datadmin privacy: > Brandt: http://www.google-watch.org/bigbro.html > Park: http://www.docuverse.com/blog/donpark/2003/02/13.html#a235 > Swartz: http://google.blogspace.com/archives/000836 > > Spidex genre: Daypop, Blogdex, Technorati & descendants: > http://www.megnut.com/archive.asp?which=2003_02_01_archive.inc#002594 > http://about.reversible.org > > Google hiring Windows engineers: > http://www.google.com/jobs/eng.html#windows > > Blogger/Williams questions biz-blog privacy (AlwaysOn/Perkins) > http://www.evhead.com/archives/2003_02_01_archive_default.asp#10451887920218 7948 > > More: > http://www.infovis.net/E-zine/2003/num_113.htm > http://www.corante.com/blogging/ > http://www.theisociety.net > > > > ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- > > FROM: Dave Farber <[log in to unmask]> > TO: ip <[log in to unmask]> > DATE: Sun, 16 Feb 2003 01:46:29 -0500 > > RE: [IP] Google just bought Pyra (Blogger company) > > > http://weblog.siliconvalley.com/column/dangillmor/archives/000802.shtml > > _____________________________________________________________________ > SOCNET is a service of INSNA, the professional association for social > network researchers (http://www.sfu.ca/~insna/).
