***** To join INSNA, visit http://www.sfu.ca/~insna/ ***** One thing that is happening is that list members' computers are infected with a virus that causes them to send (or appear to have sent) a message to the listserv which the listserv rejects. So the person gets a message saying they can't post even though they didn't intend to send anything. Some infected posts are getting through the membership screen, but are being caught by the listserv virus checker. It then sends out messages about having caught an infected message. Some people are misinterpreting those messages, thinking they have received a virus and their local machine has caught it. The IT people are looking into the remaining issues.
