Preservation of Electronic Documents with Historic or Archival Significance



Adam Jansen is the Digital Archivist for the State of Washington.  He is
formally trained in both Archives and Records Management, as well as,
information technology and IT management.  He has received the Master of
Information Technology designation from AIIM, Certified Records Manager from
ARMA and a certification in Document Imaging Architech from Comp/TIA.
Additionally, Adam is a Microsoft Certified Professional in Networking, and
has a certificate in Intellectual Property Management from the University of
Washington.  He is a published author and speaker in the field of electronic



This session will cover both the technological hurdles, as well as the
management requirements, for long term preservation of electronic records.
The first half of the session will focus on an overview of storage network
technologies (such as SAN, NAS and JBODs) and software management tools
(such as XML and PDF) viable for long term preservation of electronic
records.  The second half of the session will contain a case study to date
of the Washington State Digital Archives, the first archives in the nation
built from the ground up specifically to house the archival records of state
and local government.
