Additional Idea: Put together a PowerPoint presentation that highlights
the important points you want them to know and contains photos of your
Learning Center in action. (Be sure and follow whatever rules your
campus has about photographing students!) During the open house, the
presentation can run continuously on a portable screen.

We noticed that the faculty and staff who attended our open house
watched the presentation while they ate refreshments.

Can any of you give me some suggestions on how to put together an info
Learning Center packet for an Open House that we are hosting for our
faculty
in January? I welcome all suggestions and past samples.

LouAnn,
We have been running a successful program at Mesa State College in
Western
Colorado for the past 5 years. I would be glad to send you materials
about
our
Mentor Program, including training topics. This semester we have 23
mentors
and
55 mentees in our program.
Additionally, I am the Coordinator for the International Mentor Program
of
the
College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Currently 20 programs
are
certified and two more are being evaluated for national mentor
certification. I
will send you the guidelines for certification, which you may use as
guidelines
in setting up your program, or revising it.
Please send me your snail mail address and I will send these materials
and
some
reference suggestions to you.
Best wishes,
Nancy Kosmicke

Hi,

Does anyone have a Mentor Program established on their campus?

=20

Our campus is trying to get one up and running. We did a trial run
this
semester with very limited success. We are a community college in the
suburbs of St. Paul, MN. The mentees self-identified by signing up
for
the program when they came in for orientation this past summer. The
mentors are staff and faculty on campus.=20

Does anyone have any tips on what worked or didn't work at their
campus?
Any ideas would be welcome.

Thank you,
