My fellow bird watchers

This afternoon I counted 658 White Pelicans on and flying above Lake
Hollingsworth (downtown Lakeland). It was a most spectacular sight to see
these majestic birds in such large groups in a feeding frenzy as well as
large groups lifting off the lake and flying is a slow lazy formations
above the lake. The interesting part is that the City of Lakeland just
completed dumping thousands of gallon of Alum into the lake in an ongoing
effort to clean the lake of sediment and clear up the water. They claim
that Alum has no effect on wildlife however just in case, be on the
lookout in your birding travels for any signs of sick or dying White
Pelicans.
