A few days ago Tracey Black asked "Does anybody know where I can find some
good pictures of records disaster areas or bad record keeping places."

It may be a wee bit of a stretch, but there's a great picture on Page A6 of
today's Houston Chronicle. Unfortunately it is not on-line but the story
that goes with it is at
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2762448.

Happily, KUHF also has a similar, less impressive photo at
http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/kuhf/news.newsmain?action=article&ARTICLE_
ID=677680.

To summarize and combine the two stories, the Houston Police Department
found 280 boxes of evidence from 8,000 criminal files "each which had been
mislabeled with the number of a single closed case." Mayor White attributed
the problem to a misallocation of personnel assets as the Department tried
to get more officers on the street.
