Took advantage of some spectacularly inclement weather to get in 4h of
birding at St. Marks NWR this afternoon. Well worth it, got 97 spp. in
all. Got my first Great Black-backed Gull for the refuge and,
surprisingly, found a (the?) Red-breasted Nuthatch behind the
restrooms. Other birds of note: Blue Grosbeak, Blue-winged Warbler, Y-b
Cuckoo (all FOS). 30-40 Bonapartes gulls, 50+ Herring Gulls, 50+ Shovelers
(don't know whether these are migrants, but Shovelers have been scarce for
the last few weeks). Water levels were high in Tower Pond, so not much
there. Couldn't re-find the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher.

Have fun,

Tom Curtis
