The Association for the Tutoring Profession (ATP) announces another in a
series of on-going on-line workshops: "On-Line Academic Support." This
workshop will be offered July 9 through July 30, 2005.  

The workshop topics include: 1) identifying on-line academic support
needs; 2) developing, offering and redesigning a "home-grown" on-line
tutorial support program; 3) developing an on-line course and
understanding the problems some students may have with on-line delivery;
4) on-line training for small group facilitators; 5) using grant funds
to develop a state-wide network of community colleges to offer on-line
tutorial services; and 6) real-time on-line tutoring and tutor training.

The workshop topics will be developed with the novice in mind but with
an eye toward individuals and programs that have experience in this area
of academic support.  It is the goal of the workshop to allow
participants to get a very broad view of on-line academic support issues
and to gain experience with both college/university based and private
sector programs.   It is important that academic support programs work
in close conjunction with, and offer support to, faculty and students
who require distance learning support.      

Of equal importance is how tutors work with distance learning students.
Training strategies and tutoring scenarios will help participants to
gain insight into developing and coordinating on-line academic support. 

Workshop presenters include: Lisa Bromenshenkel (Capella University),
Liz Dewey (Delta College), Christa Ehmann (Smarthinking), Tim Rasch (St.
Philips College), Kathryn Schrader (Muskegon Community College), and Jim
Valkenburg (Delta College).

The intended audience is tutors and tutor trainers.   This workshop will
count as two CEUs toward tutor or tutor trainer certification.  A
certificate of completion will be granted upon completion of the


The cost of this workshop is $40 for ATP members and $65 for
non-members.  However, you may become a member and enroll for the
workshop at the same time.  You may register for the workshop on-line at .  Checks or purchase orders must
be received before participants are registered into the workshop.  Once
payment is received, participants will be registered and passwords
e-mailed.  Instructions for the use of the teaching/learning platform
will also be sent to each participant.
