She just wanted to let you know about the delay in payment. I talked to her
yesterday afternoon and did a sales job. I told her there were no grades.

Mike,

I sent her an email confirmation at 9:19 am this morning. Perhaps she
didn't look at her email for the day.

Jim

Great, the ATP is patient.

I hope this is the best workshop since sliced bread.

Good Morning Mike!

I registered online yesterday evening for the upcoming ATP ESL workshop.
I hope you received my registration electronically. I also applied
electronically for membership. The institution I work at will not be
able to issue and mail payment, in the form of a check, until Friday,
September 23.
I just wanted to confirm with you receipt of my electronic registration,
and to inform you that payment is forthcoming.

Thank you and have a great day.
Mary

ATP On-Line Workshop Series

The ATP is happy to announce the fifth in its series of on-line
workshops.
This workshop, Tutoring the ESL Student, will be offered as an open
entry/open exit workshop where participants may visit any module at any
time. This workshop will be offered October 7 through November 6, 2005.

The workshop topics include:

1) Second Language Acquisition theories;
2) Reading/Writing and Grammar as it applies to Second Language
Acquisition;
3) Cultural Differences/Expectations: Generation 1.5;
4) Cultural Differences/Expectations: Tutoring Techniques;
5) Developing an ESL Tutoring Program (and the reasons for it);
6) Tutor Training, Techniques and Scenarios (for traditional f2f
sessions);
7) Tutor Training, Techniques and Scenarios (for the on-line setting);
8) Who is the ESL writer?  The writing tutor/consultant's role;
9) Issues and scenarios in the ESL tutoring center.

The workshop topics will be developed with the novice in mind but with
an eye toward individuals and programs that have experience in this area
of academic support. It is the goal of the workshop to allow
participants to get a very broad view of language development and the
possible cultural challenges of the ESL student.

Of equal importance is how tutors work with ESL students both
face-to-face and on-line. Training strategies and tutoring scenarios
will help participants to gain insight into developing and coordinating
on-line academic support for ESL students.

Workshop presenters include: Linda Barr (Harrisburg Area Community
College); Craig Curty, High Point University; David Oldham (Drexel
University); AJ Rodenberg (Seward County Community College [ret]);
Jeanne Stacey (Baton Rouge Community College); Amy Stuber
(SmarThinking); Shelley Todd, Southwestern Michigan College; Jim
Valkenburg (Delta College); Lynell Williams (University of North
Carolina - Wilmington).
The intended audience is tutors and tutor trainers. This workshop will
count as two CEUs toward tutor or tutor trainer certification. A
certificate of completion will be granted upon completion of the
workshop.

The cost of this workshop is $40 for ATP members and $65 for
non-members.
However, you may become a member and enroll for the workshop at the same
time. You may register for the workshop on-line at
http://www.jsu.edu/depart/edprof/atp/ . Checks must be received before
participants are registered into the workshop. Once payment is
received, participants will be registered and passwords e-mailed.
Instructions for the use of the teaching/learning platform will also be
sent to each participant.

ATP is not connected to any private sector interests.

The ATP is a professional and scholarly association which seeks to bring
together all those with an interest in tutoring. Over 400 individuals in
membership we aim to:

promote tutoring;
represent the members in areas of policy; facilitate collaboration
between practitioners, researchers, and policy makers.
