INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED DR. JERRY JACKSON TO SPEAK ON RECENTLY REDISCOVERED IVORY-BILLED WOODPECKER

Apalachee Audubon will kick off its meeting year with a sensational program , “Searching for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker.” Dr. Jerome Jackson, author of
In Search of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker (Smithsonian Books, 2004) will discuss the bird, the search and recent observations.

Come hear Dr. Jackson speak about America's largest woodpecker, long thought extinct, only to be dramatically rediscovered last year in the remote Big Woods of Arkansas!

Dr. Jerome A. Jackson is Professor of Biology and former Whitaker Eminent Scholar in Science at Florida Gulf Coast University, with expertise in endangered and invasive species of forest and coastal ecosystems. Jerry served as Team Leader for the Endangered Species Recovery Team for the red-cockaded woodpecker for 8 years and has served on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's South Florida Ecosystems Recovery Team. He now serves on the Endangered Species Recovery Team for the ivory-billed woodpecker. In 1988 Jerry led a National Geographic Society expedition into the mountains of eastern Cuba in search of the ivory-billed woodpecker. The Smithsonian Institution Press published his book In Search of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker in August 2004.
