If you can read German,
I would recommend my book:
Stegbauer, C., 2001, Grenzen virtueller Gemeinschaft. Strukturen
internetbasierter Kommunikationsforen. Wiesbaden: Westdeutscher Verlag.
(Borders of Virtual Community. Structures in Internetbased
Communicationfora).

The whole book is about a sociological theory and the empirical network
analysis of listservs.
Further information, you can find on the web-site, which belongs to the
book.
I provide there some .dl files. So you can make your own analysis with
some these data.
Definition of the tie: there is a relation between a pair of users, if
both users participate jointly in at least one thread.
The strength of this relation is defined as the number of threads shared
by these two users.

If you are interested in the analysis of such data as a dynamic
process, please have a look at:
http://user.uni-frankfurt.de/~chris/Internetforen/MovingStructure.ppt
(the slides are in english)

Best wishes
Christian
