In your shoes, I would at least arrange for limiting the hours.

My lab is also open but we have very little traffic once classes are over, though this is largely because people assume we aren't open. Some studenst make appointments to make sure I'm in this office when they want to be here; otherwise I may be oot and aboot. (I don't have a lot of admin stuff to catch up on... woops, except that time sheet, which I'd better do now :=))

We stay open during the holiday break (except for the one week that the entire University is closed). We do modify our schedule, however, and are only open until 4pm weekdays, rather than until 9pm. Student usage of the Center is sparse during the break, so we are not confronted with the issue of not having adequate time to catch up on administrative tasks.

Hello listers.

I'm curious to know if you close your tutoring center during
intersession, and if so, for how long. Our semester ended December 9th,
but our learning center (my "office") houses eight computers. As a
result, students tend to come in all the way up until right before the
holidays. Then they come back at least two weeks before spring semester
starts. So I don't have much of a chance to catch up on administrative
duties without being constantly interrupted by students. I am
considering suggesting to my supervisor that we close the learning
center for a week during the Christmas intersession, possibly during
spring break, and maybe one week in the summer. Otherwise, I feel like I
never have a chance to get caught up. I'd be interested in hearing how
other tutoring centers handle this and if anyone is in a similar
situation.

Thanks!
