Cindy, Raymond Wlodkowksi's book Enhancing Adult Motivation to Learn (1999 Revised Edition), Jossey-Bass, would be the premier source. It is practical, easy to read, and filled with examples. It contains 60 motivational strategies within an overall framework. Also John Keller's ARCS model is widely used. For ARCS, take a look at http://www.e-learningguru.com/articles/art3_5.htm http://ide.ed.psu.edu/idde/ARCS.htm Both Wlodkowski and Keller have short articles in Michael Theall's Motivation from Within: Approaches for Encouraging Faculty and Students to Excel which is No. 78, Summer 1999 in the Jossey-Bass New Directions for Teaching and Learning series. I know that there are no simple answers to these complex issues, but I hope to find ideas that others have found useful for the faculty at-large. Thank you!
