Hi Janice,

We tried to get priority registration for SI leaders to no avail. We were told that there were too many on early registration already such as football and baseball players. Teaching assistants like SI leaders did not meet the qualifications for early registration but if you could block well or throw a baseball well, you did qualify.

One good thing is that most of the SI leaders were upperclassmen so they had earlier registration priviledges anyhow. Sometimes, if there was class that was full but the SI leader needed it in their schedule, one of the SI professors would get involved and often arranged an override into a full class. This helped many SI leaders graduate on time but when nothing could be done, some had to graduate a semester to two late for their dedication to helping student succeed. So sad.

I guess your institution must determine if someone who can significantly and positively influence academic performance and re-enrollment rates is as important as other groups such a athletes when it comes to registering early for classes.

Best wishes to you........................

Does anyone have experience in working out priority scheduling for
supplemental instruction leaders? If so, is it a valuable recruiting tool?
What problems arise, if any? Thanks for sharing your expertise.
