I know that our peer tutors (and the students) have benefited from being able to see a more experienced tutor at work. It requires the peer tutor to 'read' the situation - am I going over to help a student? If not, they do. (I am doing other stuff at the same time, sometimes, but not always, and some students need more experience than others.) They can also ask for help if they get stalled out. Adjuncts server as "Super Tutors", and provide help to our regular tutors and/or students if they need assistance with a particular problem/question. I think it's a great idea to have adjuncts and tutors interact. A new twist for me is the opportunity to hire adjunct faculty as tutors along with student peer tutors. Any suggestions as to guidelines for hiring faculty and also for managing a center with both faculty and peer tutors?
