Qualifications required: Minimum of Master's degree. An Ed.D. or Ph.D. is preferred. Position summary: Oversees the operation of a comprehensive learning center that provides direct service to students. Past experience should include directing entry level assessment for course placement, college-wide tutoring programs, supplemental instruction programs, training and technical support in hardware and software for the (ALC), and training and supervising support staff, tutors and supplemental instructors. The position requires the ability to design, plan, coordinate and implement instructional assistance programming to include individual and group tutoring, facilitate subject-mater specific study groups to increase student retention and academic success. The ideal candidate will be familiar with academic placement testing (e.g. COMPASS, Accuplacer, etc.), and Supplemental Instruction Programs or other academic support programs. Experience in helping undecided major students select an appropriate academic major using various types of career interest instruments. This position is coupled with the opportunity to be in a new building in 2008. Salary is commensurate with experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: · Ability to develop training aids and instructional materials · Ability to supervise and train employees · Ability to conduct academic skills workshops · Hiring and training of peer tutors and peer tutor trainers · Strong communication and interpersonal skills · Ability to identify and resolve computer/equipment interface problems · Assist in administering an academic assessment test for incoming freshmen and transfer students, such as Compass · Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals · Knowledge of current developments and technological trends in computer hardware and instructional software · Ability to act as a liaison between the ALC and campus administrative and academic departments promoting tutorial services · Ability to develop marketing materials for the ALC to the student body · Maintain a working knowledge of the current learning materials on the market · Knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and departmental budget oversight · Ability to develop online tutorial and student academic support services · Assist in the coordination and implementation of workshops and campus presentations to support ALC1s mission and visibility · Collect data for assessment of tutorial services and Supplemental Instruction · Experience using career interest assessment instruments such as e-Discover or e-SIGI.
