My institution may be in a position to hire a 9 month, full-time reading
specialist to assist with learning support, but before we create a job
description, look for candidates, and establish a salary we would like some
feedback about such a position from others of you who have such a position
at your institutions. This is a new venture for us, so we would like to
get it right. We are specifically interested in what qualities you look
for in a reading specialist (these could be personal as well as academic)
and what sort of salary range seems appropriate for such a position. We
don't envision having this person teach (though we wouldn't rule this out.
We were thinking about tutoring and running workshops, including study
skills, perhaps. Any suggestions or information would be greatly
appreciated and you can respond to me off-list.

Thanks,
Mary C. Robertson, Ph.D.
