Our campus has recently begun working with the CHAMPS program. First-semester student athletes and those on probation or academically at risk are required to seek assistance, anywhere from 2 to 4 hours per week (depending on the sport, I think). At first it was going to be a required study hall, but we now log student athlete use of many academic services: my tutoring center, the math lab, the writing center, SI attendance, reading/study workshops, etc. Several of us were already using TutorTrac; by creating additional specific account codes and passwords, I can track student athletes' use of most academic services on campus (including the study hall location). As a result, I can print weekly reports for each coach/sport. By giving the students plenty of options, the required hours feel less like punishment for them, plus it removes the serious burnout problem that might occur among staff/tutors if all student athletes were required to do the same thing at the same time. ----- Original Message ----- > >>> [log in to unmask] 10/10/2006 6:22 PM >>> > Hello, > > In what ways, if any, does your learning center collaborate with the > coaches and teams?
