Chair, Department of Social Sciences, Illinois Institute of Technology

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Chair of
the Department of Social Sciences. At the undergraduate level, the
department currently offers a well-established BS degree in political
science as well as courses in sociology and public policy. At the
graduate level, it offers a growing Master of Public Administration
program with a strong international component. The department’s
faculty have a range of interdisciplinary backgrounds and research
interests.

The ideal candidate will provide strategic vision and leadership that
will help the department develop and expand its degree programs and
efforts in recruiting students and faculty. Candidates must have a
well-established record of research, previous administrative
experience, and the ability to take advantage of emerging
opportunities in an entrepreneurial, interdisciplinary environment,
including the potential to develop and administer external funding.

Candidates must be tenurable at the level of full professor;
candidates currently at that rank as well as strong candidates
currently at the associate professor rank will be considered.
Competitive salary. Area of specialization open.

IIT is a mid-sized, private, PhD-granting university with an
international student body. IIT is known for its research and
education in engineering, science, architecture, law, design, computer
science, psychology, and business. (2006 Carnegie Classifications:
Research University/High; Doc/STEM graduate instructional program.)
The department is located on the main campus, south of Chicago’s
downtown Loop area. In addition, the department offers classes at the
