Job Description:

The Florida Museum of Natural History seeks a software development lead
for its natural sciences and anthropology collections. This position
will be involved with development and maintenance of collection
databases, including backend database design and implementation as well
as standards-based GUI development.


Responsibilities Include:

1. Database development and maintenance for natural history collections.
2. Manage other programmers and projects.
3. Develop new tools for database interoperability.


Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and four years of any combination of relevant
experience, education and/or certification. The level of expertise and
skill required to qualify for a position in this classification is
generally attained through combinations of education and experience in
the field. While such employees commonly have a bachelor's or higher
degree, no particular academic degree is required.

A criminal background check will be conducted.



Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants should be comfortable in a multi-platform environment
(Windows, Linux and Mac), and should have working knowledge of the
following (in no particular order):
- ASP
- Microsoft Access and VB script or VBA
- SQL
- PHP
- HTML and CSS
- stored procedures

Prefer knowledge in at least one of the following:
- Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL

Experience with Linux, Ajax, Ruby, Rails or XML is a plus. Knowledge of
basic biology and/or anthroplogy terminology is a plus. Communication
skills are extremely important. The holder of this position must be able
to communicate complex computer science concepts to non-computer
scientists. Supervisory experience is a plus.
