DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Employee will have primary responsibility for teaching reading, learning strategies and study skills to students in support sections of UNIV 101/102.  Additional duties will include teaching UNIV 101/102/110, which will include academic advisement, assessment and teaching of study skills, note-taking, test-taking, assistance with registration, assistance with developing and implementing programs and activities that will increase retention of at-risk students, as well as planning of support and enrichment activities which will ensure program effectiveness.  Occasional evening and weekend work required.  This is a ten-month position.
  MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must have a minimum of a masterís degree with specific training, coursework, and/or experience in teaching reading and study strategies.  Knowledge of best practices in the assessment and teaching of reading and study skills is required.  Preferences:  Teaching and advisement experience working in an Academic Support program in higher education.
  *Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Knowledge of best practices in higher education for enhancing student reading and other academic skills; planning and organizational skills necessary to carry out all responsibilities of the position; communication skills to explain, write, advocate for, and report on the needs of the program and academic outcomes; interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, staff and faculty; pedagogical skills to provide effective instruction to individual students and classes; the ability to respond effectively to unexpected events and make adjustments in plans as needed; the ability to heed suggestions, comments and/or criticisms from other faculty and staff.
