Thanks to the colleagues who replied on and off list.  I'm still curious, though.  Is SI the only program that has established these kinds of guidelines to target/identify needs for academic assistance?  Are there any kind of cut-off scores that look only at, say, withdrawals?  Any standards that specific states or individual institutions have established?  Or any definitions of high-risk courses that distinguish between classes?    For example, when you have a large general studies course that draws freshmen thru seniors, an overall DFW rate may not look bad until you look further and find that while the DFW rate for seniors is about 15%, the rate for incoming freshmen is about 55%.  Does anyone dare step into the dark country in which DFW rates are calculated for each professor/section?
