As a tutor, however, I do a *lot* of teaching.  Presenting information
is not the same as teaching; some of my students need a very different
approach than the one the teacher has.  (This is more true for math than
other subjects.)

Phyllis,
I've been doing the same thing--and that is why I am faculty at my
institution. I teach a success skills class, and I teach students a
wide
variety of success skills in individual appointments, some voluntary
and
some mandated; but I rarely tutor. We have some excellent tutors
available for the higher sciences and course content in their major
that
challenge my nursing students, and if my assessment indicates that's
what would better serve the student, I give the student a referral.
They
often then have weekly appointments with me for their strategic
learning, and weekly appointments with a tutor for their content
learning.
