Big Talbot Island, Duval Co. - 1 light juv. Broad-winged Hawk flushed out of a marsh-side pine and soared aloft into the smoke haze hanging over NE Florida from fires in SE Georgia. Likely a victim of the unusually high West and Northwest winds recently impacting the region, this (uncommon to region) raptor probably was blown off-course from the Panhandle.

Otherwise a smattering of raptors pushing north along Talbot including: a few Am. Kestrel, 2 Coop's, 1 Sharpy, six or so Osprey and only one female No. Harrier. One flock of 7 Eastern Kingbirds winging north. 2 Whimbrel and a few Greater Yellowlegs in Spoonbill Pond. Very hazy from smoke with visibility down to 1 mile upon our departure ca 1400 hrs.

Doris and Pat Leary, Fernandina Beach, Nassau County
