We will be hosting our first mature and transfer student orientation in the
fall. It is planned for a 2 hour duration.
The orientation will include:
*Introduction of Services / Supports from:
oStudent Association - health plan, new women's centre, clubs and the
opportunity for a club
oLibrary - resources librarians, one-to-one help with inquiries
		oFinancial Aid - questions?
		oCampus Health Centre
oLearner Support Centre - peer tutoring program, learning skills
advisors, writing specialist and ESL specialist
	*Tour of primary service areas.
*Laptop and desktop instruction - Introduction to MyCampus and WebCT
(timetable, book lists, course outlines, classroom portals etc.)
*Debriefing with social time and refreshments.

In addition we hold a once/week "Returners and Relearners" drop-in, where
the students gather, socialize and receive answers to questions or requests
they have made. We are planning to continue this group in the fall.

I hope that is helpful.

I agree. I am doubly interested because my dissertation is on adult
learners.

I'm interested as well, and I'm going to take a chance here and ask that
responses are posted to the list so that we may see them all? The
delete
key is easier for those uninterested than for you, Linda, to have to
collate
all the responses and send them individually. Besides, don't virtually
all
of us in these days and times work with adult learners?

Hopefully that's alright with everyone. :)

Hello Everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone out there would like to share information about
college orientation programs that specifically target the returning or
first-time adult learner? Because the topic is such a narrow one,
please
respond off the list.
Thanks a lot,
Linda Hamell
