Abstract. Storing carbon in forests and soils is an important tool in
combating climate change, as doing so offsets CO2 emissions from burning
of fossil fuels and curtails increases in the concentration of
greenhouse gases. This seminar will explain how well-designed
agricultural offsets can play a key role in this process.

Dr. Zach Willey is an Economist at Environmental Defense in Washington
D.C. He received a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California,
Berkeley. His work currently focuses on developing carbon markets for
greenhouse gas emission offsets and trading projects through forestry
and agriculture in the USA and China. He recently published a book
entitled "Harnessing Carbon in Farms and Forests in the Low-Carbon
Economy: How to Create, Measure, and Verify Greenhouse Gas Offsets"
(Duke University, Nicholas Inst.). He is the Founding director of
Deschutes River Conservancy (Oregon) and Environmental Resources Trust
(Washington DC). He has served as advisor and consultant to state and
federal governments, foundations, and Indian tribes in the United
States, and to several nations and corporations in the Middle East and
Africa.
