Answering the earlier questions and raising another -

We currently test incoming undergraduate day students in reading, writing, and math and require them to take developmental courses their first semester if they place into them. About 1/3 of our incoming freshmen place into one or more. They must complete [i.e. pass] those courses with a C within three semesters of matriculation or they will be dismissed from the university.

However, the university is taking a new look at placement and developmental courses. I have been asked whether there are other institutions in the greater Philadelphia, PA area which require or strongly recommend that students take a reading/study skills course.

I'd appreciate input from those of you in the Phila. area!

Thanks!

Subject: Re: Remediation policy

At the University of Alaska Fairbanks we, currently, do not have any
policies that address either of these issues.
