Dear UF Colleagues: The deadline for submitting abstracts to the UF Water Institute Symposium is THIS WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 10th. This symposium promises to be intellectually stimulating and thought-provoking event. We have a great line-up of plenary speakers who have committed to participate including: * Dr. Peter Gleick <http://www.pacinst.org/about_us/staff_board/gleick/> (co-founder and President of the Pacific Institute) who will kick-off the conference with a global look at connections between water and human health, the hydrologic impacts of climate change, and sustainable water use * Dr. Robert Hirsch <http://www.usgs.gov/future_challenges/hirsch.asp> (Associate Director for Water, USGS) who will be the plenary speaker on the challenges of population growth and land use change to water resources sustainability from a national perspective * Dr. Steve Zebiak <http://portal.iri.columbia.edu/portal/server.pt?open=1&objID=5034&paren tname=CommunityPage&parentid=6&mode=2&in_hi_userid=2&cached=true> (Director of International Research Institute for Climate and Society, Columbia University) who will be the plenary speaker on the challenges of climate variability and climate change to water resources sustainability * Dr. Lora Fleming <http://www.biomed.miami.edu/epi/faculty_fleming.php> (Co-Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, University of Miami) who will be the plenary speaker on public health challenges to water resources sustainability We will systematically be moving from a global to national to local perspective during the conference, as well as from presentation formats to more interactive panel discussions and town hall meetings. We will wrap up with a panel session, featuring the Executive Directors of each of the Water Management Districts, that focuses on Florida's Water Policies and Programs and Implications for a Research and Education Agenda.
