Hi Lucy,

The only problem with tutoring in math on Blackboard or WebCt is
creating the symbols. If you have a Tablet PC, then it is ok. Even the
Wacom pens are not that good in my opinion. Are there other
technologies out there for tutoring Online with math?

Beth,

Penny Turrentive at Pima Community College is using NetTutor. This was
a "manageable" fee for a center.

Chemeketa is experimenting with Breeze (Adobe's Presenter), but this is
a college-wide purchase (read very expensive!)

These are syncronized solutions = real time. If you doing online
tutoring during open hours, you may want to consider asynchronous
tutoring in message areas in webct or Blackboard with instant messaging
or chat.

Before you begin, you need to spend some time working on creating the
culture of online tutoring: what is it and how will it work. Not the
technology, but the actual tutoring using the technology. Or you will
end up with a question and answer system. *grin*.

Subject: Online Tutoring

My Center is looking for software to assist us in online tutoring. We
don't want to make the financial investment in something like Smart
Thinking, but we want to provide tutoring online to students in the
hours that the Center is open. I'd appreciate hearing about what you
are doing to serve online students.

Thanks
