Bird Islands, Duval County: A lone (white juvenile) Iceland Gull was recorded on the Bird Islands during Duval Audubon's Christmas count today. The bird remained in one location for over an hour, thus accommodating the collection of multiple digiscope images (available off list). Unfortunately, the bird eventually flushed and was last observed flying south over the inlet toward Lt. Talbot Island. At this time, it is unknown if other parties subsequently sighted the bird elsewhere in the count circle (Huguenot Memorial Park / St. Johns River jetty). Previous sightings of Iceland Gulls in NE Florida reflected movement from one coastal site (jetty) to another within the region over a period of weeks.

Today's count was impacted by heavy coastal fog most of the morning.
