RE:                          Fall 2008 Academic Written English Screening Test and EAP Course Offering

All international graduate students whose first language is not English (official first language of home country) and who have been admitted conditionally due to low scores on standardized tests need to obtain a passing score on the Academic Written English screening test.  Incoming students who scored less than 320 on the GRE verbal, 6 on the IELTS, 77 on the MELAB, 213 on the computer TOEFL, 80 on the Internet TOEFL or 550 on the paper TOEFL are required to take the test. In addition, students who have been asked by their departments/programs need to attend the test screening.

Screening Test Procedures

Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in CSE E-119

Students must arrive for the test 30 minutes in advance, by 8:00 a.m. If the test takers arrive after 8:15, they may not be able to take the test due to the time needed to process the fee.

Bring the following items to the test:

1.       A check for $60.00, made out to the University of Florida, or $60.00 in cash.

2.       UFID (i.e. your Gator Card)

3.       Local mailing address.

Students who cannot pass the written essay test are required to take EAP 5845 Academic Written English during the first semester of matriculation at UF. Exceptions are possible for enrollment during the Spring, 2009 semester, upon petition to the Graduate School.

There will be two sections of EAP 5845 this fall:

EAP 5845 – 1949   MWF 3              MAT 0005

EAP 5845 – 6803  T 7/R 7,8            CBD 0234

Students who pass the test or opt not to take the test may still enroll in the course EAP 5845 at any time during their stay at UF, pending space in the sections.  Registration takes place through the Linguistics program: students cannot register themselves through the ISIS system.  All interested students should get in touch with Dr. Virginia LoCastro, at [log in to unmask]   on or after August 13th. Also, please check the website for the program:

Please NOTE: Starting Fall 2008 through Spring 2009, EAP 5845 can still be paid for through the graduate tuition waiver if the student has a UF stipend.
