RE:
Fall 2008 Academic Written English Screening Test and EAP Course Offering
All
international graduate students whose first language is not English (official
first language of home country) and who have been admitted conditionally due to
low scores on standardized tests need to obtain a passing score on the Academic
Written English screening test. Incoming students who scored less than
320 on the GRE verbal, 6 on the IELTS, 77 on the MELAB, 213 on the computer
TOEFL, 80 on the Internet TOEFL or 550 on the paper TOEFL are required to take
the test. In addition, students who have been asked by their
departments/programs need to attend the test screening.
Screening
Test Procedures
Wednesday,
August 20, 2008, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in CSE E-119
Students
must arrive for the test 30 minutes in advance, by 8:00 a.m. If the test takers
arrive after 8:15, they may not be able to take the test due to the time needed
to process the fee.
Bring
the following items to the test:
1.
A
check for $60.00, made out to the University of Florida, or $60.00 in cash.
2.
UFID
(i.e. your Gator Card)
3.
Local
mailing address.
Students
who cannot pass the written essay test are required to take EAP 5845 Academic
Written English during the first semester of matriculation at UF. Exceptions
are possible for enrollment during the Spring, 2009 semester, upon petition to
the Graduate School.
There
will be two sections of EAP 5845 this fall:

Students
who pass the test or opt not to take the test may still enroll in the course
EAP 5845 at any time during their stay at UF, pending space in the
sections. Registration takes place through the Linguistics program:
students cannot register themselves through the ISIS system. All
interested students should get in touch with Dr. Virginia LoCastro, at [log in to unmask] on

NOTE:
Starting Fall 2008 through Spring 2009, EAP 5845 can still be paid for through
the graduate tuition waiver if the student has a UF stipend.
