POSITION TITLE: Professional Tutor
STATUS: Full-time, 10-month position
DEPARTMENT: The Learning Commons 
BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direct supervision of the Director of the 
Learning Commons, this position will serve as a tutor in the LC, with 
responsibilities including one-on-one conferences in areas of expertise 
(composition, study skills, learning differences and/or ESOL), providing 
workshops and classroom visits, and teaching one learning strategies 
course per semester.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Tutor during regularly scheduled office hours, 
20 to 30 per week; offer writing assistance specifically for students with 
learning differences; train all tutors to better serve students with 
learning differences; serve as a department liaison as part of the 
college's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP); perform administrative tasks, 
including enhancement of the Writing Studio web presence for the QEP; 
teach one learning strategies course per semester (fall & spring), and 
conduct workshops in topics related to strengthening and enhancing 
academic skills.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master's degree in a related 
field. Experience working with students of varied skill levels.
