Becky,

FYI

What do you know about this program, sounds good, I am not sure we could
replicate it but the Basic Skill committee you are working with might be
interested.

Subject: Registration for SLA Symposium, March 17-18, 2008

* * *    STRUCTURED LEARNING ASSISTANCE SYMPOSIUM, March 17-18, 2008   *

Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI (Early bird rate
before February 16)

Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) was established at FSU in 1993 to
help students pass historically high-risk for failure courses. It bears

some similarity to other supplemental instruction programs, but offers
the
structure necessary to effectively reach all students, including first
year, academically unmotivated and under-prepared students. SLA works
with courses across the curriculum, from developmental to
upper-division,
providing students with up to 45 hours per semester of extra time on
task
at no additional cost to the student. Over the past 14 years, program
statistics have shown that SLA course sections had higher pass rates
than
non-SLA sections with the average gain at 10%. Furthermore, students
and
faculty continually report high rates of satisfaction with the program.

Come learn about this highly effective program, including all aspects of

program planning and operations, observations of the program in action
and
interactive discussions with SLA faculty and facilitators. Upon
completion, Symposium participants will have the tools necessary to
pilot
SLA at their home campuses.

For further information, including the detailed Symposium program and
registration instructions, visit the SLA website at
http://www.ferris.edu/sla/.
