Braving the rain and wind yesterday (Mar. 14) was rewarded mainly with
a good show at the Lighthouse Pond, including 15 spp. shorebirds and 10
of gulls and terns. Best was a beautiful breeding adult LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL, along with many BONAPARTE'S GULLs. Rounding out the
assortment was 4 AMERICAN AVOCETs, a few each WHIMBREL and MARBLED
GODWIT and a BLACK SKIMMER. A lone BLACK-NECKED STILT was at Mounds 3.

NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWs constantly patroled the Visitor Center
pond, and several BARN SWALLOWs were seen on the refuge.
