Annette,

On July 20-25th, 2008, Texas State University in cooperation with CRLA and NADE will offer the tenth annual TIDE - Technology Institute for Developmental Educators. We limit enrollment to 30 participants to provide personal attention, so sign up soon.

This institute brings together developmental educators from around the country and from other countries to learn how to use technology in developmental education courses and/or learning support centers. Experts like Dave Caverly and Russ Hodges from Texas State; Lucy MacDonald, Professor Emeritus from Chemeketa Community College in Salem, OR; Rick Sheets from Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, AZ; and Todd Phillips from East Central College in Union, MO will teach you through hands-on training with projects you want to accomplish.

Housed on the campus of Texas State, you can choose from 6 mini-courses on Mac and PC platforms focused on integrating technology into your developmental education program whether it be on-campus or on-line. Over a 180 developmental educators have attended TIDE over the years learning how to integrate technology while networking with colleagues in similar positions to their own.

Nineteen mini-courses range from Tutoring Online to Creating Audio or Video Podcasts, Teaching Online or Hybrid classes, Developing a Webpage, Creating Sophisticated Slide Shows, using WebQuests and Inspiration, Managing Instructional Computing, Professional Technology Development, and even basic applications like Word or Excel if you are a novice. We accept all levels of expertise.

This year we are introducing new mini-courses on Teaching with Blogs, Wikis, and Second Life; Teaching with Connect for Online Instruction; as well as Teaching with Moodle (as a free course management system) and Google Docs and Open Office (free programs for students to use instead of Microsoft Office).

Technology learning takes time and a relaxing atmosphere. TIDE is 5 days of mentoring and hands-on practice as you work on projects you bring with you. Find out more and register online at the TIDE homepage:
