RE: FALL 2009 ORAL ENGLISH CLASSES FOR INTERNATIONAL
GRADUATE STUDENTS
Fall 2009 Non-Credit Oral Communications in English
courses offered through ASE/ELI at UF:
ASEP 1 (Formerly ASE 1/EAP 5835)-- $500 tuition for a
seven-week class.)
This class is not eligible for a graduate tuition waiver.

This course meets four hours per week during a 7-week
Fall A term (August 31 - October 16) and again for a second 7-week Fall B term
. Each 7-week term will cost $500/term. Students can register for both
terms if they wish. This class will meet Monday - Thursday during 7th period
(1:55 pm - 2:45 pm) in the ASE classroom in Yon Hall 320.
You will work with a course instructor and a native
English-speaking language assistant (i.e. increased native speaker contact!)
There are 4 hours per week of classroom instruction,
which includes:
-- 2 personalized speech evaluations (beginning & end
of the semester).
-- Supervised pronunciation practice in the language
laboratory.
-- Oral presentations which will be recorded and reviewed
with native speakers.
-- Practice exercises (including worksheets and mp3
files) for pronunciation improvement outside of class.
This course can be especially helpful for international
graduate students who need to pass the SPEAK Test in order to secure a graduate
assistantship, or perspective students who will have to take the spoken part of
the TOEFL iBT.
ASEP 3 (Formerly ASE 3/EAP 5837) -- $500 tuition (for a

This is an Advanced oral communication skills in English
course
This course meets four hours per week during a 7-week
Fall A term and again for a second 7-week Fall B term. Each 7-week term
will cost $500/term. Students can register for both terms if they wish.
This class will meet Monday - Thursday during 8th period (3:00 pm - 3:50
pm) in the ASE classroom in Yon Hall 320.
You will work with a course instructor and a native
English-speaking language assistant (i.e. increased native speaker contact!)
There are 4 hours per week of classroom instruction, and
a one hour biweekly conference with the course instructor:
-- Oral Academic presentations which will be recorded and
reviewed with native speakers.
-- Practice job interviews
-- One-on-one Prosody work/Accent reduction with the
course instructor.
This course can be especially helpful for international
students who are getting ready to graduate from the university or from a
language institute and are seeking academic or industry employment.
