Hi BESTSers,

A supermarket chain called Sainsbury in Scotland will be piloting
a project to send its food waste to a biogas production plant.
The chain has 28 stores and plans to implement this in all its
stores this summer. The switch-over will divert 42 tons of food
waste from entering the landfill each week. They estimate that 1
ton of their waste could power 500 homes. Not only that but
because only one truck will be required to collect from the
stores, 336 trucks will be removed from the roads. Imagine the
energy potential here in Gainesville with our 15+ Publixes
(Publices??) and other grocery stores each throwing away a
dumpster full of garbage every night. That would be truly local,
sustainable energy.
