We also use Banner and have a good working relationship with IT. At the beginning of the term, IT pulls specific student data/criteria for each class we support. I have to copy these reports to Excel and make some minor adjustments so the data fits on one page. The beauty of these reports, which I call Interpretive Reports, is that they not only give you a bird's-eye view of the class make-up, they also allow you to make predictions about students with multiple at-risk factors. For example, how well will a freshman with a low ACT score fare in BIO 2423: Anatomy, a traditionally difficult course? At the end of the term, I input final course grades, SI participation (0=no SI; 1= SI) and the total number of SI visits. With this terminal data, I can then analyze the correlation between academic assistance and successful completions (As, Bs, Cs). This type of report allows you to analyze a plethora of issues. Attached are two actual samples of Interpretive Reports from Fall 2006. (I have deleted identifying information from both reports.) One is for BIO 1410: Human Biology (biology for non-science majors) and the other is for BIO 2424: Physiology. Note the latter report's COMMENTS section, which details the course enrollment history for the entire class. The course sequence for BIO 2423: Anatomy and BIO 2424: Physiology is normally fall (BIO 2423) and spring (BIO 2424), which means this fall selection was out of sequence. That alone says a lot. We enter data from our tutoring report forms (at the SGAZTUT page/form) and then computer services generates monthly and semester reports that tell us which students got tutoring, on what dates, for how long, for which classes and with which tutors they worked. Number codes have to be entered for each tutor working (STVZTUT) for the semester so that we can record the information on tutoring sessions. We also have computer services run a separate report telling us the contact hours each tutor had during the given period. There's a page that also lets us see an individual student's tutoring history (SGAZTIN) for the given semester. Computer services has also helped by designing a way to search in Banner for potential peer tutors for specific courses based on grade and GPA requirements. That's done through the Process Submission Controls page (GJAPCTL) Hope this helps, Stephanie L. Lawhorne Stephanie L. Here at Broome Community College we are in the midst of BANNER implementation. I have been asked to explore its ability to work as a matching/search database for tutoring. Do any of you use Banner that are also involved in Tutoring? If so,can you please email me directly at [log in to unmask] so I can hear your words of wisdom. Thank you in advance!
