Approximately 400 institutions internationally train tutors using THE  
MASTER 
TUTOR: A GUIDEBOOK FOR MORE EFFECTIVE TUTORING and the pre/post 
assessment THE TESAT (TUTOR EVALUATION AND SELF ASSESSMENT TOOL).
 
Users continue term after term to re-validate tutor effectiveness  
regardless of the 
format used 1) f2f, 2) online training, 3) hybrid f2f/online, and 4)  
pre-assessment/self-
directed reading/post assessment. A search within the colleague network  
will ascertain 
how many institutions award academic credit for the research-based training 
 method 
Dr. Ross MacDonald created.  Business Officers favor this approach  both to 
increase the 
campus-wide credit-bearing courses offered to all students (undergrad/grad) 
 and to support 
funding for tutoring and developmental education.  
 
Online tutor training has risen substantially nationwide.  Tutors  invest 
their time 3-4 times
greater using a 24/7 schedule over 5 weeks than attending f2f formal  
training programs
over 1 weekend.  Better retention and use of proven tutoring methods  and 
skills has also
been determined.  Plus, Business Officers often capitalize  institutional 
site licenses, 
especially among those appealing for academic  credit. Train-the-Trainer,

training is also available (Next Scheduled: June 12-26, 2009)
 
Additionally, tutor budgets need not purchase guidebooks.  Bookstores  
nationally have
experienced rapid growth in retail sales among students who wish to become  
tutors for
earnings, internship credit, and as volunteers for community  
organizations.  Offsetting
the retail cost of Guidebooks can be fulfilled by offering tutors 3-4 hours 
 of wages for
training in exchange for them purchasing guidebooks from the  bookstore.
 
Best of all,  many users over the past 15 years have determined that  Dr. 
MacDonald's 
curriculum can be used repeatedly by a wide spectrum of practitioners  with 
the same
results.  A primary reason, tutors like to use THE MASTER TUTOR for  
determining
their own progress and proficiency.  They help each other become more  
effective as
tutors.  Fortunately, it makes them more efficient, as well, as  evidenced 
by the time on 
task with each student tutored.
