Members: For those interested in the satellite tracking of various animals (including migratory birds), visit: SeaTurtle.org for access to active maps and plots of numerous tagged birds. Of special interest to Florida birders may be North American Bald eagles, Wood Storks, Marbled Godwits and Whimbrel. Four of the latter were banded in VA this May and have been tracked into northern Canada. Of particular interest is one bird that flew NW across Canada to the mouth of the McKenzie River then reversed course, flying SE ca 1000 km to a point in the boreal forest west of Churchill, Manitoba. This unusual behavior may reflect the harsh conditions in the arctic this spring, although the most unseasonable weather impacted the central arctic vs. Alaska and western arctic.

East central Alaska is currently experiencing a heat wave with temps. in the 80-90's east of Fairbanks. Goodbye perma frost!
