Supplemental Instruction Coordinator
Monthly Salary $3333, negotiable depending on qualifications

The University of Texas at Arlington SOAR University Tutorial Program seeks an experienced Supplemental Instruction (SI) Coordinator to be part of a successful and dramatically expanding SI Program.

UT Arlington has a population of 28,000 students and is located in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.  The University is a comprehensive research institution with a vibrant, growing, and diverse student population.  As a student-centered university, quality teaching has a central role in our mission.  UT Arlington has a long history of commitment to student success through programs such as living/learning communities, centralized and decentralized tutoring options, supplemental instruction and intensive counseling. In the coming months, the University will be significantly increasing the resources devoted to student success initiatives.

Housed in Academic Affairs, the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program at UT Arlington is currently comprised of a Director, Coordinator, ten SI supervisors, 3 resident assistants and a team of 60 leaders. Beginning in 2010, SI will expand to 125 leaders and be a key component of a newly-formed University College where freshmen students will find academic support services, advising, counseling, tutoring and supplemental instruction in a single location.

The ideal SI Coordinator candidate will be interested in joining this expanding organization and bring significant prior SI management/supervisory experience.  The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills or abilities:

Required qualifications: Master's degree. 1 year of experience in a Supplemental Instruction Program or a related field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred qualifications: Master's degree in a related field. 3 years experience in a Supplemental Instruction Program or related environment with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity. Experience conducting trainings. Good communication skills. Computer software skills (Word, Excel, etc).

Essential functions: Hire, train, and evaluate SI leaders. Conduct training and help coordinate training for SI leaders and in-service training for new staff. Maintain the SI web portal by ensuring the quality of the content and proper information/handouts are posted for the classes. Train students and staff on how to navigate through the portal, upload and download information, and assist with web portal issues. Assist Director with administrative duties: preparation and updating of SI schedule, securing access to rooms and room scheduling, preparation of budget, management of SI leaders, evaluation of SI, and creating and disseminating policies. Hire, train, evaluate, discipline and discharge research assistants. Coordinate publicity for Supplemental Instruction, including monitoring and improving website. Responsible for networking the program with affiliates on and off campus. Assist with the creation of new trainings, features, and new programs of activity.
