The 24th New England Statistics Symposium

Friday/Saturday, April 16-17, 2010, Harvard, Cambridge MA

The Department of Statistics of Harvard University will host the 24th New England Statistics Symposium on Saturday April 17, 2010, to bring together statisticians from all over New England at a central location.  Invited keynote speakers are Iain Johnstone of Stanford University and Jennifer Chayes of Microsoft Research New England.

There will be four mini-courses on April 16, 2009. One on "quantitative financial modelling in the post-Lehman landscape" presented by Stephen Blyth of Harvard University and Harvard Management Company; one on "statistical methods and software for genomic and clinical data analysis" presented by Curtis Huttenhower of Harvard University and Florian Markowetz of Cancer Research Institute UK and University of Cambridge; one on "statistical elements of complex networks" presented by Edo Airoldi and Joe Blitzstein of Harvard University; and on "research cultivation and culmination: how to get your paper published (eventually)" presented by Joe Blitzstein and Xiao-Li Meng of Harvard University.

The theme of the symposium is "statistics in the Sciences". There will be several invited special theme sessions ranging from statistics in the biological sciences (including systems-biology and genomics) to statistics in the physical sciences (including astrophysics), to the computational and information sciences (including computer vision and machine learning), and form statistics in healthcare, economics and sociology, to statistics in educational assessment and evaluation.

In addition, students are encouraged to submit papers for consideration for the best student paper competition. Interested students should submit their paper no later than Monday, March 1, 2010.
