Third Floor Lecture Room 3A

Richard Gottlieb MD is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Mount Sinai: Faculty and Supervisor, New York Psychoanalytic Institute

Dr. Gottlieb, an analyst whose work has focused on the quirky and dark corners of psychoanalytic thought (e.g. vampires and cannibalism), has studied three works of Sendak (Where the Wild Things Are, In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There) in terms of the role of fantasy, dream and artistic creation in the transformations of overwhelming affect states in children. He was recently interviewed on NPR about his work on Sendak which has also appeared in the current issue of the Psychoanalytic Study of the Child.

Dr. Gottlieb's presentation will include visual materials (including previously unpublished preliminary sketches)
