Cade Museum and Gainesville Chamber of Commerce Announce Competition for Florida Innovators

The Cade Museum Foundation announced yesterday that it will sponsor an annual competition - beginning this year - to recognize and promote Florida innovators.   The award will consist of a $50,000 cash prize, plus one year of in-kind support provided by the  Gainesville Chamber of Commerce   and the  Gainesville Technology Enterprise Center.   The competition is open to Florida-based innovators.   Project summaries should demonstrate that the ideas are innovative, creative, interdisciplinary, and commercializable.

"The long-term goal of the prize," said Richard Miles, the Foundation's Executive Director, "is to promote the culture of innovation and to tap the tremendous job-creating potential of the brilliant ideas springing forth from this region every year."

The competition is open to all Florida-based individuals or teams.  Potential competitors have until March 31 to submit a 500-word summary of their innovation for the initial round of screening.   Vetted entrants will be invited to a workshop to be held in Gainesville in April.   The session will provide advice and tips on completing the final submissions, which will be due by May 15.    A distinguished panel of local judges will select several finalists, and an additional panel of judges from outside the region will pick the overall winner.     The prize will be awarded in Gainesville in mid-June.    Additional details are available at
